| Mission |
Working groups Yerseke carries out research in estuaries and coastal waters in Europe, the east coast of Africa, south-east Asia and the Antarctic. Its research focuses on the role of biological processes in material cycles: these processes are described, quantified and modelled in order to find out how they influence each other and how they affect the biological diversity of ecosystems. |

Met ingang van 1 januari 2012 is het Centrum voor Estuariene en Mariene Ecologie (CEME) in Yerseke, tot dan onderdeel van het Nederlands Instituut voor Ecologie (NIOO-KNAW), onderdeel van het Koninklijk Nederlands Instituut voor Zeeonderzoek (NIOZ), gevestigd op Texel. Hiermee hebben de twee belangrijkste Nederlandse instellingen op het gebied van fundamenteel kust- en zeeonderzoek hun krachten gebundeld en daarmee de strategische positie van Nederland op dit terrein versterkt. |
