Het onderzoek in de faculteit is georganiseerd in vijf onderzoeksprogramma's die onder leiding van een coördinator staan: a. Criminal Justice o.l.v. Prof.dr. P. Nieuwbeerta en Prof.mr. C.P.M. Cleiren, b. Grenzen van fiscale soevereiniteit o.l.v. Prof.dr. H. Vording, c. Hervorming van sociale regelgeving o.l.v. Prof.dr. K.P. Goudswaard, d. Securing the rule of law in a world of multilevel jurisdiction o.l.v. Prof.dr. W.J.M. Voermans, f. Coherent Privaatrecht o.l.v. Prof.mr. A.G. Castermans. Daarnaast participeert de faculteit in drie profileringsgebieden van de universiteit Leiden. Profileringsgebieden zijn onderzoeksgebieden waarin de Universiteit Leiden excelleert.
