Dimes specialises in microsystems, the key enablers of a wide range of applications. Its core competences: nanoelectronics, Micro-ElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) and System Integration. Each of these three technology domains comes with its own set of scientif c and technological challenges, such as miniaturisation, patterning, 3-D integration, modelling and design, materials science, device engineering, characterisation, assembly and packaging. The four societal themes that constitute the research priorities of TU Delft - health, energy, environment, infrastructure and mobility - are all dependant upon the availability of smart microsystems that are sensitive and responsive to the environment. It is the ambition of Dimes to provide the scientific and technological competence base for the realisation of the TU Delft programmes defined within these themes. Therefore, Dimes conducts leading edge, multidisciplinary research on the integration of baseline integrated circuit technology with features ranging from wireless high-frequency communication and photovoltaic energy conversion to nano-instrumentation and biomedical sensors. |
