| Mission |
The Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures (CBS) - an institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and situated in Utrecht - maintains a world-renowned collection of living filamentous fungi, yeasts and bacteria. The Institute's research programs principally focus on the taxonomy and evolution of fungi as well as on functional aspects of fungal biology and ecology, increasingly making use of molecular and genomics approaches. The institute employs circa 50 personnel, among whom 17 scientists. |

Het CBS organiseert cursussen in de algemene mycologie, de medische mycologie en de mycologie van voedsel en de bebouwde omgeving. Het CBS is erkend als bewaarplaats voor gepatenteerde schimmels, gisten en bacteriën. Het verricht ten behoeve van derden identificaties van micro-organismen, en adviseert bij zich voordoende problemen ten gevolge van schimmels en gisten.
