| Mission |
The CCD was established in 1985 as a training and knowledge centre in the fields of Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CID), automated production systems and robotics in a corporate economic and organisational context. The Centre combines the strengths of a number of disciplines, with collaboration between the sub-faculties of Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. | The term 'CIM' was introduced in the Sixties by J. Harrington to describe a holistic vision of the management of business processes supported by information systems. CIM focuses on the integration of marketing and sales, research and development and production and distribution. The 'hunger' for new products - as reflected in the consumer markets of the last two decades - has set new standards for time-to-market and production lead-time. These standards can only be met with a well-organised, integrated approach to strategy, technology and organisation, supported by ICT (information and communication technology). |
