| Mission |
Research in the Division of Human Nutrition is directed towards studying the role of diet and other lifestyle factors in human health and well-being including the understanding of the underlying mechanisms from a biological and behavioural perspective. Studies are directed towards problems in Western and non-Western countries using a variety of research methods ranging from experiments at a molecular level, through controlled human dietary interventions to observational studies at a population level. Research interests include: Relationship between dietary/lifestyle exposures and outcome of diseases including coronary heart disease, cancer, obesity. This includes their risk factors and precursor lesions or risk factors as well as the interaction of dietary factors and genetic susceptibility in disease etiology. Prevention of deficiency diseases and the development of food products with added health value. This includes bioavailability, interaction, efficacy and mechanism of action of bioactive food components. In this research line special attention is paid to the use and development of biomarkers of exposure, cellular damage and intermediary endpoints of disease. Food, nutrient and energy intake in relation to the maintenance of health and optimizing nutrient and energy intake of vulnerable groups in western and non-western societies, e.g., pregnant women, children and the eldery. Assessment of food intake including it determinants. This includes psychosocial and environmental factors, taste, flavour and satiety which are the basis for changing food choice and dietary patterns of consumers. |
