| Mission |
Research is focused on the interactions between nematodes and (a)biotic environmental factors. The goal is to develop methodologies and strategies for durable plantparasitic nematode control with a minimalized negative impact on the environment. On the other hand, non-plantparasitic nematodes are reliable indicators for the condition of the environment and methods are being developed that use nematodes to monitor and quantify both disturbance and recovery of soils. The central themes are: molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying the relationship between plant-parasitic nematodes and plants with special emphasis on signal-transduction pathways, and natural and biotechnological resistance population dynamic and genetic effects of different factors such as host-plant resistance, soil organisms and soil characteristics the use of nematodes as bio-indicators of soil quality |
