Mission	The Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW) carries out fundamental and strategic research on individual organisms, populations, ecological communities and ecosystems. The research takes place at two locations. The Centre for Estuarine and Marine Ecology (CEME) in Yerseke concentrates on the ecosystems of brackish and salt water. The research centres studying the ecology of fresh water (formerly in Nieuwersluis), and focusing on land-based ecology (formerly in Heteren) are based in a new, sustainable building in Wageningen from the end of 2010 onwards.
