Taak The Behavioural Science Institute (BSI) is a research institute at the Faculty of Social Sciences and received excellent ratings in a recent evaluation. Its mission is to conduct top-level research on the fundamental principles and processes that govern human behaviour. In addition to this fundamental aim (to understand behaviour), we aim at societal relevance (to influence behaviour). The training and supervision of BSI's PhD students take place at the BSI Graduate School (officially recognized by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research). BSI has state-of-the-art research facilities for observational studies, experiments, eye-tracking studies, EEG measurements and GSR recording, psychobiological research, and behavioural measurements in both real and 3D virtual environments. The neuroimaging facilities of the Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging, fMRI, MEG, and TMS are available for research on the neural bases of behaviour. As a distinctive feature, BSI emphasizes an integrative approach to human behaviour which transcends the traditional disciplinary boundaries that characterize contemporary research in psychology and education. The focus of BSI is on the technology-enhanced analysis of human behaviour. BSI researchers investigate questions about the nature and development of social cognition and behaviour, executive control and automatic processes, and the dynamic interplay between biological and social-contextual factors in the development of human behaviour. Both normative behaviour and psychopathology are studied. Research paradigms include advanced experimental and quasi-experimental methods, virtual reality technology, psychophysiological measurement, behavioural and social neuroscience methods, behavioural genetics paradigms, randomized clinical trials, and intensive longitudinal designs.
Aanvulling In 2012, the BSI was formally re-accredited as a research school by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
The BSI houses a NVAO accredited 2-year MSc programme in Behavioural Science.
