The Behavioural Science Institute (BSI) is a modern research institute in behavioural science in which highly qualified researchers conduct quantitative empirical research using state-of-the-art facilities. The mission of the Institute is to conduct research on the fundamental principles and processes that govern human behaviour. As a distinctive feature, BSI emphasizes an integrative approach to human behaviour which transcends the traditional disciplinary boundaries that characterize contemporary research in psychology and education. The focus of BSI is on the technology-enhanced analysis of human behaviour. BSI researchers investigate questions about the nature and development of social cognition and behaviour, executive control and automatic processes, and the dynamic interplay between biological and social-contextual factors in the development of human behaviour. Both normative behaviour and psychopathology are studied. Research paradigms include advanced experimental and quasi-experimental methods, virtual reality technology, psychophysiological measurement, behavioural and social neuroscience methods, behavioural genetics paradigms, randomized clinical trials, and intensive longitudinal designs. |

In 2006, the BSI was formally accredited as a local research school by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
The BSI houses a NVAO accredited 2-year MSc programme in Behavioural Science.
