Mission The Casimir Research School (Casimir) has been established in 2004. Its name is in honour of Dutch physicist H.B.G. Casimir (1909-2000). The school provides an intellectually stimulating environment to deepen and broaden the PhD training in physics and closely related disciplines at Leiden University and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. About 100 Ph.D. students and 50 Senior researcher participate in the school's educational programme, mostly from the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience Delft and at the Leiden Institute of Physics. The school offers graduate courses by leading researchers in the fields of "interdisciplinary physics" as well as other topics to prepare the Ph.D. students for a career after their PhD. The unique facilities of the Lorentzcenter are used for one-week thematic Ph.D. workshops, held with internationally leading experts who interact and educate the young Ph.D. Finally, bi-annual workshops are held to facilitate exchange of information between researchers within the Casimir Research school and to encourage joint research topics.
