| Mission |
IMARES (Institute for Marine Resources and Ecosystem Studies) is the Netherlands research institute established to provide the scientific support that is essential for developing policies and innovation in respect of the marine environment, fishery activities, aquaculture and the maritime sector. IMARES is: - an independent, objective and authoritative institute that provides knowledge necessary for an integrated sustainable protection, exploitation and spatial use of the sea and coastal zones; - an institute that provides knowledge necessary for an integrated sustainable protection, exploitation and spatial use of the sea and coastal zones. - a key, proactive player in national and international marine research networks (including ICES and EFARO) We carry out scientific support to policies (50%), strategic RTD programmes (30%) and contract research for private, public and NGO partners (20%). Our key focal research areas cover ecology, environmental conservation and protection, fisheries, aquaculture, ecosystem based economy, coastal zone management and marine governance. IMARES primarily focuses on the North Sea, the Wadden Sea and the Dutch Delta region. It is also involved in research in coastal zones, polar regions and marine tropical areas throughout the world and in specific fresh water research. |

Publicaties uit WAY zijn beschikbaar via deze link | Bij IMARES werken ongeveer tweehonderd mensen in veldonderzoek, experimentele studies, van laboratorium- tot mesocosmosschaal, modellering en evaluatie, evenals wetenschappelijk advies. De medewerkers hebben de beschikking over de meest geavanceerde laboratoria, experimenteer faciliteiten, veldwerkapparatuur en onderzoeksvaartuigen. Het kwaliteitssysteem van IMARES is gecertificeerd volgens ISO 9001. Specifieke chemische analyses worden uitgevoerd onder de gecertificeerde Q-lab Status ISO 17025. Samengewerkt wordt met gespecialiseerde collega-onderzoekers, ook internationaal. Ongeveer 20% van het onderzoek wordt uitbesteed aan partner-instituten in Nederland en daarbuiten. IMARES onderzoek wordt gepubliceerd in internationale bladen onder collegiale toetsing. Als onderdeel van Wageningen UR heeft IMARES nauwe banden met de Wageningen Universiteit en de Hogeschool Van Hall Larenstein . met opleidingsprogramma's voor Bachelor, professioneel Master en academisch Master op het gebied van zee en kust. Het instituut heeft een speciaal PhD-programme in samenwerking met de Wageningen University . |
