| Mission |
New media and information technology facilitate new scholarly practices and novel sorts of knowledge acquisition and encoding. This is commonly referred to with the label e-research. The Erasmus University (EUR) aims to promote as well as to study e-research. To this end the EUR and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) launched a new research institute which started its activities in June 2007: Erasmus Virtual Knowledge Studio, or in short: the Erasmus Studio. The Erasmus Studio will carry out a research programme including a number of projects with researchers from various disciplinary backgrounds, such as social sciences, economics, management research, and informatics. The Erasmus Studio will also organize a series of interdisciplinary seminars on e-research, in which both senior researchers as well as PhD students and undergraduates can participate. The Erasmus Studio is a collaboration with the Virtual Knowledge Studio for the Humanities and Social Sciences (VKS), a KNAW institute in Amsterdam which started in January 2006. A similar collaborative initiative is the Maastricht Studio. It was lauched in October 2007 and has been set up by the VKS and the Universiteit Maastricht. The Erasmus Studio secretariat is housed by the Erasmus School of Economics. The researchg community formed by the members of the Erasmus Studio covers a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds and interests, and is firmly rooted in scholarly networks and publication channels, as underlined by membership of editorial boards for e.g. the Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology |
