| Mission |
In 2009, eight Dutch universities decided to join forces in a national network for Islamic studies: the Neterlands Interuniversity School for Islamic Studies (NISIS). NISIS was officially launched on 16 April 2010 under the conference theme Studying Islam: Text and Context . NISIS represents a multidisciplinary network of Dutch experts in the field of Islam and Muslim societies. As such, it aims at providing a platform for all Islam-related education and research in the Netherlands. NISIS offers an education portal with a full overview of the available BA and MA courses within the field of Islam and Muslim studies offered at the eight participating universities in the Netherlands. Moreover, it contributes to educating a new generation of researchers on Islam and Muslim societies. NISIS facilitates research on Islam and Muslim societies in the Netherlands via the appointment, training and supervision of PhD students. In addition, NISIS organises seasonal schools on themes that are fundamental to the study of Islam and Muslim societies. |
