In 1985 Anita obtained a double Master degree from Wageningen University in Tropical Agriculture and Food Technology. She completed her PhD thesis, entitled 'Ecophysiology of bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea (L.) Verdc.)', in 1994. Since 1995 she is a staff member of the Product Design and Quality Management group of Wageningen University. Her expertise in is consumer-oriented food product development with special attention to sustainability issues. Her work in education and research is characterised by an interdisciplinary approach and the integration of natural and social sciences. At present she is supervising PhD students from Benin, Ecuador, India, Zimbabwe and Kenya, who are working on foods from cowpea, mungbean, lupin, pineapple, baobab, banana, cashew, shea and dye sorghum.
