The mechanism and the regulation of the synthesis of the proteins encoded on the RNAs of cowpea mosaic virus are studied. For in vitro studies a wheat germ extract and/or a messenger dependent lysate of rabbit reticulocytes are used and in vivo studies on viral protein synthesis are performed with virus infected protoplasts from cowpea leaves. The function of the proteins in the virus multiplication proces is studied. The distribution of the genetic information over the tow RNAs of the viral genome is determined. In addition it is studied whether the synthesis of host-specific proteins is induced upon virus infection.

Abstract (NL)

In het Nederlands: Het mechanisme van de synthese van de eiwitten die gecodeerd liggen op de RNAs van cowpea mozaïkvirus wordt bestudeerd, zowel in vitro (i.e. tarwekiem extract en een messenger afhankelijk lysaat van konijnreticulocyten) als in vivo (in met cowpea mozaïkvirus geïnfecteerde protoplasten). Nagegaan wordt wat de functie is van deze eiwitten en op welke van beide RNAs de eiwitten zijn gecodeerd. Tevens wordt nagegaan of er synthese van gastheer specifieke eiwitten geïnduceerd wordt t.g.v. de infectie met cowpea mozaïekvirus.
