Abstract

The mink is a strictly carnivorous animal and consequently its protein demand is very high. The information concerning the requirements of protein and amino acids in mink is limited in comparison with information about the requirements in other domestic animals. Consequently the protein content of the feed and the N-losses are unnecessarily high. Optimisation of production and reduction of pollution requires more knowledge of the response relationships between nutrient retention and body composition. AIM: Gain knowledge about the response relationships between protein (amino acids) and energy intake and growth and fur development resulting in the development of a physiological feeding strategy. The results can also lead to the development of the first growth (and moulting) model for small carnivorous species.
