Abstract

The research must result in understanding how immunisation as a preventive means was introduced and accepted in the Netherlands. The main focus will be on the period from 1870 onwards. Arising from the nature of the subject matter, much attention will be given to relevant social developments and groups that played a significant role in the establishment, acceptance and rejection of immunisation as a means of a large scale strategy of prevention.

Abstract (NL)

Het onderzoek moet leiden tot inzicht in hoe vaccinatie als een zeer belangrijk preventief middel in Nederland gevestigd en geaccepteerd is geraakt. Het zwaartepunt ligt op de ontwikkelingen vanaf 1870. Uit de aard van de thematiek wordt veel aandacht besteed aan de vaccinatie tegen pokken. Veel aandacht wordt besteed aan de relevante maatschappelijke ontwikkelingen en groepen die een belangrijke rol speelden bij vestiging en acceptatie van, maar ook verzet tegen vaccinatie als grootschalige preventieve strategie.
