| In the research program Work and Health all the research activities of the department Coronel Institute for Occupational and Environmental Health is clustered. The research program Work and Health focuses on the relation between work and health and vice versa, and is especially orientated on the quality of care in occupational health services, on work-related diseases, and primary diseases like diabetes mellitus or rheumatoid arthritis. The research program s mission is to contribute to knowledge on determinants, diagnosis and effectiveness of occupational health interventions with respect to work-related disorders by executing excellent research, to be published in high-quality peer-reviewed journals. In addition to the various accumulating demands in the working situation, the working capacity of the worker and control over the work situation plays an important role. Relations are studied between physical work demands (pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, standing), psychosocial factors (work pressure and decision latitude), chemical agents and related health complaints. Special attention is given to the role of recovery during and after work and individual susceptibility in relation to health complaints and age. Projects oriented on social insurance medicine is a part of the research program Work and Health and clustered in the AMC Social Insurance Medicine Research Center (ACVG). The knowledge infrastructure in occupational health in The Netherlands is another topic of research. The research is roughly organized into three themes: 1) musculoskeletal complaints/ disorders, 2) mental health problems and 3) toxicological disorders. |
