| In this research project, the settlement process experienced by Italian immigrants in the Netherlands will be examined by identifying two incoming cohorts in the city of Rotterdam as well as Amsterdam (for 1870-1879 and 1920-1929), each cohort being traced over three generations. Particular attention will be paid to social mobility, personal networks, and the degree and nature of group formation. To the extent that group formation was manifested, this research will investigate the factors which underpinned it, such as geographical origins, nationality, and profession. |
