| The project aims at describing the evolution of Achaemenid society and culture (i.e. belonging to the Persian empire of the 6th through the 4th centuries BC) from a perspective that will give due attention to the contribution of Elam. The influence of Elam, an entity in the southwest of modern Iran (provinces Khuzestan and, partly, Fars) can be attested in the iconography, material culture, religion, and royal ideology. The so-called Persepolis Fortification Tablets, a corpus of about 4,800 administrative texts written in Elamite, is of great importance, especially for religious matters. As a 'by-product' of the dissertation, the contents of the archive will be made electronically available on the Internet (on this see url below) |
