| This research concerns the philosophy of language, more specifically theories of reference. The title of the project refers to the method the investigator applies: she investigates and evaluates theories of reference of proper names by looking at what kinds of 'semantic facts' these theories use, that is, what mechanisms they suppose to be responsible for various features of behavior of proper names. In the constructive phase of the project she develops a theory of reference for proper names which will hopefully profit from lessons yielded by existing theories which are evaluated in the first, critical part. |
