Abstract

Research in the Distributed Database Technology program covers a broad spectrum of topics. The mission of the program is to control the complexity of database systems and their applications. The research deals with a mixture of fundamental and application-oriented topics.
Two themes can be distinguished, one concentrated around technology and one around modelling. In both themes, applications play an essential role. Currently these applications are multimedia retrieval, WWW, and transaction systems.
Theme: Distributed Database Technology
Within the technology theme the work focuses on adding functionality to existing database servers to efficiently implement new applications that are relevant for a distributed multimedia environment such as WWW. Below a list of current topics is presented.
