Title Distributed Database: Modelling
Period 2000 - 99 / 2004
Status Completed
Research number OND1279638

Abstract

Research in the Distributed Database Technology program covers a broad spectrum of topics. The mission of the program is to control the complexity of database systems and their applications. The research deals with a mixture of fundamental and application-oriented topics.
Two themes can be distinguished, one concentrated around technology and one around modelling. In both themes, applications play an essential role. Currently these applications are multimedia retrieval, WWW, and transaction systems.
Theme: Data models and tools
Within the models theme the work focuses on extending the expressiveness of the existing object-oriented data model with an object manipulation language and a process language. These formalised extensions are used to analyse specifications by means of tools. Current topics are:
- Component-based development
- Distributed database transactions
