| [Objectives:] To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of a specific implementation strategy for the Dutch physiotherapy guidelines for non-specific low back pain. [Methods:] The study population consists of 120 physiotherapists, who will be randomly sampled from the register of the Dutch Physiotherapy Association (KNGF). The physiotherapists will be randomized into two groups. The experimental group will be invited to two local meetings. At the first meeting, physiotherapists will be specifically trained to use the guidelines, receive extra background information regarding the recommendations contained in the guidelines, and discuss difficult situations portrayed by an actor. In the second meeting the physiotherapists will receive feedback on their experiences with the guidelines. The control group will receive the guidelines through the regular channel of dissemination; i.e. all members of the KNGF will receive a copy. Physiotherapists in both groups will register their management of 10 consecutive patients with non-specific low back pain. Process outcomes as well as patient outcomes will be measured. There will be a follow-up of 12 months. |
