| [OBJECTIVES:] The main objective of the study is to determine the influence of social networks on the incidence and course of depression and anxiety disorders in later life in the community. The main research questions are: 1. How do global network variables influence the onset of depression and anxiety disorders? 2. How do global network variables influence the course of depression and anxiety disorders? 3. What is the effect of specific network variables such as a. marital relationship, b. relationships with children, c. relationships with friends and d. relationships with family at the onset and course of depression and anxiety disorders? The additional research objective is to examine the cohort effects on network variables, depression and anxiety disorders. [METHODS:] The study is based on data from the Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam (LASA). New data from the latest interview with participants at the age of 55-65 will be included to examine cohort effects. [RESULTS:] Not yet available. |
