| [Context]: Research on the behaviour of chemical components in order to understand and to quantify their fate in the soil compartment of (natural) ecosystems. [Aim]: To study the fate of (contaminating) compounds in the (un)saturated soil zone. [Methods]: Field monitoring programmes, (pH-stat) soil column experiments, incubation experiments, sequential extractions, simulation models. [Present topics]: Soil acidification, heavy metal mobility and speciation in forest soils, relevance of cation exchange for acid neutralization in the forest floor, phosphorous, sulphur and nitrogen behaviour. |
