| Multiphase flow systems are widely encountered in the process industries. As a result, reliable modeling of such flows is highly relevant for process-optimization purposes. At this moment, the complexity of the phenomena involved makes a simulation of the flow with a resolution and accuracy comparable with single-phase flow simulations virtually impossible. The present research program consists of three projects, each with its own level of abstraction and carried out at three research groups at three universities. The goal is to demonstrate the feasibility of the multiscale approach, in which direct simulations will be coupled to algorithms able to simulate two-phase flow in conjunction with transport phenomena on the full reactor scale. |
