| This cluster includes research of the languages and cultures of the pre-Islamic Near East and their continuation in the late-classical and subsequent periods. The research is carried out on the basis of sources in Akkadian, Egyptian, Hebrew, Aramaic and other, predominantly Northwest Semitic languages. The cluster is closely linked to that of the Islamic World (see below). The cluster is formed by researchers who are attached to various departments, namely that of Archaeology; Assyriology; Egyptology; Hebrew, Aramaic and Ugaritic Languages and Cultures; Art History and Archaeology; History of Law; and Comparative Linguistics. The cluster also includes researchers from the Faculty of Arts, Free University, Amsterdam. |
