Abstract

From its start in 1985 the Dutch Brain Bank, by providing post-mortem brain tissue for quality research, has functioned as an international organisation supporting the scientific community. The availability of human post-mortem brain tissue is essential for research into Alzheimer's disease. The Dutch Brain Bank aims at providing to researchers clinically and neuropathologically well documented brain tissue of deceased Alzheimer patients and corresponding controls.

Vanaf de start in 1985 heeft de Nederlandse Hersenbank (NHB), door post-mortem menselijk hersenweefsel te leveren voor kwaliteitsonderzoek, gefunctioneerd als een internationale organisatie die de wetenschappelijke gemeenschap ondersteuning biedt. De beschikbaarheid van menselijke post-mortem hersenweefsel is essentieel voor het Alzheimer-onderzoek. De NHB stelt zich tot doel klinisch en neuropathologisch goed gedocumenteerd hersenweefsel van overleden Alzheimer-patiënten en overeenkomende controles beschikbaar te stellen aan onderzoekers.
