| In the course of the disease process the majority of Alzheimer patients suffers from behavioural problems like irritation, depression and insomnia. These behavioural problems, that are a heavy burden to the caregivers and often result in hospital admission, are a hot topic, since Alzheimer's disease cannot be cured, whereas there are treatments for the behavioural disorders connected with the disease. In order to be able to develop these treatments further, more knowledge is needed on what is going wrong in the brain. Aim of this project is to determine which parts of the brain are affected in irritated, depressive and sleepless Alzheimer patients. On the long term this knowledge should lead to a better treatment in daily practice. A better treatment of the behavioural disorders will relieve the task of the caregivers and will enable longer nursing of the patient at home. |
