| The process of water changing into ice is named phase change. The early Universe went through phase changes while it expanded and cooled. During those processes rests of earlier phases may be caught in the present phase. This is a well-known concept from physics: topological defects. The properties of those defects in particle physics and in the laboratory provide a very useful insight into the composition of the Universe. |
