| Through researching the neglected theme of the police in the Netherlands Indies in the period 1897-1942, this project intends to arrive at a typology of the colonial police, and to test the recently formulated thesis of the Indies as a ¿state of violence. These large issues are approached by dividing the research into four interrelated ¿perspectives¿: political-administrative debates: organisatioin and structures: self images; and operations of the police. |
