Abstract

The goal of the Freeband AWARENESS project is to research and design a service and network infrastructure for context aware mobile applications. This service and network infrastructures are validated through prototyping with ambient intelligent medical applications. Freeband AWARENESS integrates ubiquitous computing (i.e. lots of devices with communication capabilities), information processing and exchange of context parameters with mechanisms that support (pro-active) responsiveness of applications. The Freeband AWARENESS infrastructure will enable meaningful access to relevant information and services at the right time, and does this in a secure and privacy-sensitive manner. Freeband AWARENESS will integrate and extend advanced support functions from previous projects, such as federated AAA, mobility management, session mobility, context management and matchmaking, resource and service discovery, into a single coherent infrastructure. This infrastructure will provide support for context-aware mobility (dynamic routing protocols, resource discovery, QoS) in dynamic network environments and co-existence and cooperation with managed networks. Innovative context inference and intelligent multi-domain contextual handling mechanisms will be added to facilitate attentive applications. The added value of the Freeband AWARENESS infrastructure will be validated in the healthcare domain.
