Abstract

A new, additional view on a number of life processes may be obtained by regarding these processes as calculations. These "natural calculations" have two sides: the provide insight into biology but they may be also used as inspiration for computation. In this study it will be examined how this new view can be integrated with modern methods from dynamic systems, probability and statistics and will deal with the biological aspects.

Abstract (NL)

Een nieuwe, additionele zienswijze op een aantal levensprocessen kan verkregen worden door deze te beschouwen als berekeningen. Deze "natuurlijke berekeningen" hebben twee kanten: ze verschaffen inzicht in de biologie maar kunnen ook gebruikt worden als inspiratie voor berekeningen op computers. Het projectvoorstel kijkt hoe deze nieuwe zienswijze geïntegreerd kan worden met moderne methoden uit de dynamische systemen, kansrekening en statistiek en kijkt nader naar de biologische aspecten.
