| The aim of the project is to get more insight in how the normative choices, made in the daily medical practices and the medical discourse on intersexuality, are intertwined with heteronormativity. How are choices, for example for 'cosmetic' surgery and for withholding of information, made? How do ethical dilemmas influence these choices? And how do these choices manipulate the lives of people with atypical sex anatomies? The question at hand is whether there are alternative scenarios for medical intervention or no medical intervention imaginable. For example scenarios that include long-term and patient centered insights and are conceivably relocated from the medical discourse to a cultural, linguistic and ethical discourse. |
