This project entails making an inventory of the sustainable effects which policies in the field of urban restructuring in the Netherlands and a number of other European countries have had on cities, neighbourhoods and their inhabitants. We will specifically look at the factors of success and failure of a large number of policy initiatives that have been carried out within the framework of urban restructuring. It is expected that the European dimension of the project will generate numerous new ideas for the Dutch practice of urban restructuring. At the same time, an elaborate investigation in Dutch urban restructuring areas, using the methodology of the European part of the project, will lead to good comparisons between Dutch urban restructuring initiatives. This proposed project comprises three parts: - An investigation aimed at identifying the sustainable effects of urban restructuring initiatives in six Dutch cities. - An international policy conference, where the effectiveness of urban restructuring policy initiatives in a number of European countries is central. - The production of a practice-oriented handbook in which the effectiveness of the initiatives is explicitly linked to their applicability in the Dutch situation. |
