The role of negative and positive attributes in describing options and choosing between them
09 / 2003 - 12 / 2007
This PhD project focuses on two apparently incompatible phenomena the positivity effect and the negativity effect. This project revolves around particular instances of these phenomena in judgment and decision-making. It seems as though people predominantly use negative information in judgment and decision-making, whereas they seem to prefer communicating about judgments and decisions using positive statements. The aim of this project is to try and resolve this apparent contradiction and to identify the scope of these phenomena.
