| Context: This project is part of the EU funded research project 'Wege des Wassers', which focuses on an integrated catchment management in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine. Partners are the University of Aachen (project coordinator), University of Liège, Rijkswaterstaat and the Waterboard Roer en Overmaas. Aim: 1) Establish an absolute chronology of phases of increased and decreased sediment accumulation during the Holocene in the Geul River catchment (sediment budgeting). 2) Identify, quantify and model the impact of changes in climate and land-use on fluvial processes and catchment development. Methods: geomorphological mapping, coring of detailed cross-valley transects, grain size analyis, pollen analysis, 14C and OSL dating, modeling studies using a process-based landscape evolution model. |
