| ADHD and dyslexia are two common child psychiatric disorders, which frequently co-occur. Recent studies show an overlap in ADHD and dyslexia concerning deficits which were formerly known as characteristic for either ADHD or dyslexia. For instance, ADHD children are known to perform poorly on inhibition tasks and in dyslexic children reduced phonological functioning and working memory are observed. However, recent research showed that both ADHD and dyslexia are associated with working memory deficits, and inhibition problems are also found in children with dyslexia. Atomoxetine has been found to reduce the behavioral symptoms of ADHD. As a consequence of the comorbidity and the overlap in deficits of ADHD and dyslexia the beneficial effects of atomoxetine on inhibition, working memory and phonological functioning in ADHD, dyslexic and comorbid ADHD/dyslexic children will be evaluated. |
