The ultimate aim of the study 'proefopstelling ' is the development of an on-line decision support system (dss) for the regional water management in the Netherlands. The dss should include tools to: - Predict the system load on the basis of the available weather forecast data; - Derive control actions for pumping stations; - Analyse what-if questions with respect to the constructive measures and control strategies The Rijnland storage basin serves as a case study. The basis of the dss is formed by the existing flood early warning system (FEWS) developed by WL / Delft Hydraulics. Next to the processing of data a major effort was put into the implementation of a water basin control module named ' Integrale Regalaar ' in the dss. This module has been developed at Delft University of Technology and was tested within the simulation environment for the Rijnland storage basin. The paper for the International Conference Urban drainage Modelling 2004 describes some results of the PhD study of Elgard van Leeuwen, more specifically the derivation of control rules for the near optimal control of urban drainage systems during system failures. The paper is entitled: Control Rules for the operation of pumped urban drainage systems - Adequate operation during system failures. The proceedings may be viewed on http://www.tu-dresden.de/UDM04. Control rules based upon the aforementioned doctoral thesis study were successfully implemented in the Rotterdam urban drainage system by Siemens Nederland. |
