Abstract

There are large individual differences in the susceptibility to develop pseudo-memories in the laboratory. While traditional personality factors (e.g., suggestibility) do not seem to contribute to the creation of false recollections, neuropsychological factors appear to play a modest role in the formation of such recollections. Memory distrust might also influence the susceptibility to develop pseudo-memories. In this project, we will investigate the effect of memory distrust as a trait on paradigms developed to elicit false recollections in the laboratory. Moreover, the effect of manipulating memory distrust on pseudo-memories and false confessions will also be studied.
