Samenvatting (EN)

The objective of this program is to analyse and interpret Dutch architectural culture of the period ca. 1680-1840, the long eighteenth century, by focusing on the changes that took place in the institutional and governmental organisation of architecture in the Netherlands, and confronting this with the apparent growing public participation in matters of architecture that manifests itself internationally during this period. Furthermore, the project investigates how the Dutch audience responded to international developments in architecture, notably in Belgium, France, England and Germany, but at the same time remained true to, or in constant dialogue with the specific Dutch character of architecture and the organisation of building activity
