Abstract

A description and an analysis of the changes which were brought about by the abolition of clerical celibacy after 1878 in the German and after 1922 in the Dutch Old Catholic Church. The research focuses on the change in the shape of priesthood, on the character and exemplary function of the household of the priest and on the role and position of the vicar's wives.
