| Early bligh, caused by Alternaria solani is one of the most damaging tomato diseases in the lowlands of Indonesia and in (sub)tropical regions worldwide. Although much works has been published on the A.solani - tomato interaction and many sources of resistance have been described, very little information is available on the genetics of resistance. This project aims to identify genes for resistance derived from related lycopersicon species, to map on a linkage map with molecular markers, and to use linked markers for introgression of resistance genes into a tomato background. After introgression the genes become available for Indonesian breeding programmes and for characterization studies. |
