Abstract

During my stay at NIAS, I will be developing and bringing together several strands in my current research related to the role of knowledge in society and the economy. These include the following themes: conceptualizing knowledge, the (social) conditions for the emergence of knowledge, the measurement of knowledge, the effects of developments in knowledge for the economy, a way to understand and evaluate the fundamentally dynamic developments of a knowledge economy, and the implications for policy making. The fields I draw on have often developed separately but in this project, I hope to bring the different disciplines together. An important aim will be to organize a workshop at NIAS to exchange ideas on these aspects of the knowledge economy.
