| Analysis of risk factors effecting viability, function, immunogenicity of the graft in relation to survival after transplantation; in particular, effects of brain death of the donor, ischaemia/reperfusion and hemostasis as causes for early (or late) injury are studied. Antigen (in)dependent inflammatory responses in the allograft are studied with special focus on tolerance induction; interaction with infection, in particular lymphotropic viruses; the aetiology of chronic transplant dysfunction and graft fibrosis. Epidemiological evaluation of current clinical programs and development of new programs in organ (intestinal) and cellular (islet) transplantation. |
