The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality strives for safe and sustainable produced food and a living countryside. Rural areas must remain economically viable while preserving landscape and heritage. LNV cannot achieve this alone. All the stakeholders need to take some responsibility. Aim of this research theme is to deliver knowledge about entrepreneurs and their functioning between market and society and how policymakers can use this knowledge. In this research theme the entrepreneurs are the focus for the Ministry of LNV. Entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship are main aspects in the development of the agrosector. Insight in the incentives of entrepreneurs is necessary to support entrepreneurs themselves as well as for the policymakers.
Research questions are aimed at decision making on agricultural firms and within agricultural production chains. Entrepreneurship, competence, social responsibility, etc. are relevant to future policy development. Knowledge on these topics is the main focus of this program. Special topics in this research theme are organic agriculture and labour.
The results of the program are published in reports and papers and are used by policymakers. The projects of the year 2005 have given more insight in entrepreneurship in agriculture, the role of policy in their decision making and the way entrepreneurs use information in their entrepreneurship.).
