This theme within the BO-06 Plant health is dealing with innovation and management in contained cropping systems. The results of research should lead to development or improvement of new and existing Best Practices that growers can use as part of their disease control strategies. Among the crops that are studied are greenhouse cucumber, cut roses, sweet pepper, potted plants, and mushrooms. For each crop, focus is on more than a single pest or disease. Within this theme we focus on different approaches (work packages) such as: preventive systems in soil and natural substrate, integration of pest and disease management strategies in the crop and its nursery, monitoring and detection as part of decision support, optimalization of the glasshouse climate to minimize diseases. In addition there are a few projects not specifically related to a single crop, for instance: the influence of new cropping systems on disease control, and management of soil borne pathogens in organic cultures of greenhouse vegetables. Finally there is a small budget reserved to stimulate communication of good project results and demonstration and implementation of Best Practices .
