Knowledge requirement: There is a need for a demand-driven, interactive development an dissemination of knowledge. Special attention must be paid to the themes: reliability of production methods, product quality, disease and pest control, the closure of nutrient and energy cycles, energy conservation and reduction of CO2-emission. There is also a distinctive move towards more understanding of market -oriented perspectives and attention for aspects that play a role within the chain. Experiences and new initiatives from entrepreneurs, operating individually or organised in farming networks, have to be used optimally. The approach is holistic and transdisciplinary. The long term innovation projects Closed Cycle Greenhouse and Social Greenhouse will be continued in this program.
