Abstract

The increasing cost of research means that social, behavioural and biomedical scientists are in more urgent need of the benefits of optimal design theory and are required to increase the efficiency and statistical power of their designs with a minimum sample size. This project aims at filling gaps and summarizing results on optimal design. The output of this project will be an easily accessible textbook on the applications of optimal designs. In contrast to most textbooks that require a high degree of mathematical knowledge and focus more on analytical solutions, this book will aim at a conceptual explanation of the mechanisms and offer guidelines and examples to practitioners.
